While a diversity of factors lies behind these problems, the end result is the same: a loss of the skin’s balance, elasticity and firmness. The effect of this loss on the complexion translates into blemishes, discoloration and premature wrinkles . The causes behind factors are both internal and external to the body:

From changes in the body’s internal systems

As we grow older, various physical systems begin to deteriorate. The regeneration of skin cells slows down. The skin becomes rough and discolored; while changing hormone levels within the body mean that the skin no longer looks as fresh and clear as it did when we were younger.

From lack of balance in the skin

If the effectiveness of the skin’s ability to retain moisture is damaged, skin cells on the uppermost layer of skin become dry. The skin cells then contract, a process which reveals itself in little wrinkles, particularly in delicate areas around the eyes.

From sunlight

The UV radiation found in sunlight is absorbed into the skin, constantly destroying the dermis. As a result, layers of skin become thinner, and natural elastin is destroyed, thus reducing the skin’s elasticity and eventually leading to wrinkles.

The natural way to combat premature ageing

Collagen – A protein found in the dermis which acts to retain the skin’s natural oils, strengthening skin cells and boosting their elasticity to leave skin that is firm, radiant and soft.

Elastin – A fibre which adheres to the flesh below the skin, thus boosting the elasticity of skin cells to leave the skin looking smoother and firmer.

Vitamin C – An essential nutrient that helps the skin in forming collagen, plays an important role in binding skin cells together and protects against the tearing of blood vessels, to leaving the skin naturally smoother, firmer, fresher and more radiant.

Five Massage techniques to reduce wrinkles

1. Using the hands. Gently massage from the beginning of the eyebrows (the ends nearest the nose) upwards in circles to the hairline. Helps reduce wrinkles on the forehead.

2. Using both hands, gently massage from the beginning of both eyebrows in sideways circular motions to their far ends. Massage both the eyebrows and the area immediately above the eyelids, to help reduce wrinkles in these areas.

3. Using the hands, gently massage from the mid point between the eyebrows in circular motions down to the end of the nose. Helps reduce wrinkles between the eyebrows.

4. Using the hands, gently massage around the side of the nose and in circles outwards to the forehead. Perform simultaneously on right and left sides to help reduce wrinkles on the face and the skin between the nostrils.

5. Using the hands, gently massage from the mid-point below the lower lips in circular motions outwards along the mouth and up to the earlobes. Helps reduce wrinkles around the lips.
